Yesterday the October Saves Family connected in a powerful and special way.
Mitch Korn has been a gracious and passionate friend to October Saves, supporting goalies, their families, and the fight against cancer. Mitch has also been kind enough to share his time by inviting October Saves participants to his camps.
Dante Sousa, a passionate young goalie from Massachusetts, was brave enough to share his story during the 2018 Goalie Challenge. Dante showed remarkable heart and determination as he fought to raise money in honor of his aunt. Dante raised nearly $7,000 and won 3rd place in last year’s event.
Charlie and Will Capalbo, two goalies and brothers, have had their own personal battle with cancer. Last year, Charlie fought cancer with the support of his brother Will. Will donated his bone marrow to Charlie, and their story struck the heart of our October Saves family. We shared their story and did our small part to support the fund for Charlie’s treatment.
Yesterday, July 12, 2019, these worlds converged. While attending Mitch Korn’s camp, Dante Sousa was surprised by Charlie and Will Capablo. Charlie had just finished his treatment, and appeared at camp to present Dante with an award for resilience in recognition for his fundraising efforts after losing his aunt to cancer.
We are so proud and overwhelmed at the love, unity, and strength of this community!
